Over the years, the UK rules for gambling have changed in order to cover all aspects of the gambling platform. In the UK all gambling is regulated by the Gambling Commission under the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. In recent times, the Act saw an upheaval with the new act released in 2005, which protected children and also added the newer addition of the online gambling under its jurisdiction. Gambling was initially made popular during the time of the Second World War. However, it wasn’t until 1960 that the Betting and Gaming Act was introduced, making it legal for things such as bingo halls to run commercially. Similarly, casinos had to follow the same lines, with the first legal casino being established in Wales in 1961. A new gaming Act was introduced in 1968 which made it easier for more commercial casinos to spring up and then with the 2005 Act in place, resort casinos were able to come in to being. However, at this time, there are still no true super casinos such as those found in Las Vegas, but rather a large number of smaller casinos dotted around the country. In recent years the industry has turned towards the online world and UK law has been modified to encompass that. Instead of preventing this though, the new law has embraced the online world, allowing its continued existence and ensuring that it remains regulated, which means that player safety and security is taken into consideration. At this time most forms of gambling are all covered with lotteries, sports gambling, bingo halls, casinos, online venues all enjoying coverage of this Act.

Modern Law Areas https://strottlawfirm.com/modern-law-areas/ Sun, 13 Dec 2015 16:25:44 +0000 https://strottlawfirm.com/?p=8 The law industry has expanded, and the growth of modern technology has caused some new areas of the law profession to flourish. Here are some examples of areas that are seeing a rise to prominence: Employment LawThe increasingly unstable jobs market has produced a more flexible workforce: jobs for life are now extremely rare. The high incidence of redundancies has meant that people are resorting to litigation more often to settle employment-related matters. Claims for wrongful or unfair dismissal have increased, along with litigation over redundancy settlements.Environmental LawMore stringent environmental requirements have lead to claims against businesses who are responsible for creating pollution. Conversely, businesses that looking to be compliant are seeking the help of environmental solicitors to protect them against future claims of litigation. Companies are also seeking the help of law firms where grants or tax bonuses exist for compliance with sustainability initiatives.Intellectual Property LawThe surge in personal computing has also seen a growth in internet entrepreneurs marketing new devices and concepts. However; the prevalence of idea-sharing over the internet has lead to increased cases of intellectual property theft. Those looking to market new products are often seeking the advice of law firms before going public with their ideas.
